Europe, Americas, Africa and now… Asia
Excerpt from :
ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS JOHN PAUL II TO THE FEDERATION OF ASIAN BISHOPS’ CONFERENCES
San Carlos Seminary of Manila Sunday, 15 January 1995
“In these years of preparation for the Great Jubilee of the Year 2000, your particular Churches are fully committed to giving a fresh impulse to the evangelism of Asia. Just as in the first millennium the Cross was planted on the soil of Europe, and in the second on that of the Americas and Africa, we can pray that in the Third Christian Millennium a great harvest of faith will be reaped in this vast and vital Continent [ Asia]. If the Church in Asia is to fulfill its providential destiny, evangelism as the joyful, patient and progressive preaching of the saving Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ must be your absolute priority.”
Protestants, Catholics, Orthodox……
The United States sent out 127,000 of the world’s estimated 400,000 missionaries abroad in 2010, according to Todd Johnson, director of the Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Massachusetts. In distant second place is Brazil, which sent 34,000 missionaries abroad in 2010, he said.

China Irritated With Christianity, Is Creating Its Own Version 2014 Sentencing of Christians explodes 10,000% in China 2015
Here is a very informative ‘comment’ written by Gandharva for ‘The rise of Christianity in China’
Gandharva The rise of Christianity in China
Long article with fine details- but what is missing from this article is a viewpoint of Chinese non-Christians. Demolishing Churches and imprisoning worshipers is a sure fail method to tackle the growth of Christianity. China is a very ancient civilization- more ancient than Rome and Greece and comparable to Egyptian and Mesopotamian civilizations. The Chinese have a very strong and advanced local philosophical and religious traditions. Mainly Confucianism and Buddhism. The latter arrived from neighboring India 2000 years ago but developed in China as a local religion over the centuries. These 2 great religions and practices were violently suppressed as part of Mao’s communist cultural revolution. Though China suppressed all religions equally the most affected were indigenous Confucianism and Buddhism. Many ancient original texts were burned by the then government. Centuries-old monasteries were closed or converted into government buildings and factories. When China became more liberal and globalized by early 1990s. Well funded foreign religions like Christianity thrived. The reason being, believers in the west- mostly wealthy protestant movements collected and poured money into China for harvesting souls. The Christians actively demonized Buddhist and Confucianism practices as pagans and devil worshipers. The local religions simply did not have the resources- financial, or manpower to withstand the ideological assault of well funded Christian missionaries. Mainly because the ‘base’ of local religions were destroyed by Communists and Chinese population had become mostly atheists. So it was easy for Christianity to grow in this spiritual vacuum. But now, with the rise of nationalists Chinese middle class- the old religions started thriving. Many Chinese nationalists started taking pride in their own indigenous religion and culture and wanted to fight back against western funded soul harvesters. Many powerful government officials are in favor of reviving indigenous Chinese religions and decided to take the fight back to Christianity. They probably need to learn more from their Indian nationalists’ counterparts. Indian nationalists had been fighting soul harvesters by mainly modernizing and advancing native Indian/Hindu philosophical arguments against Christian missionaries (with occasional violent incidents being reported). Physically banning and jailing Christians can never tackle growing popularity of Christianity instead they should start funding indigenous faiths so that they can start influencing people ideologically via conversations.
